Energy Saving RTO Oxidizer Waste Gas Treatment
The regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) is a highly efficient industrial waste gas treatment system that recovers combustion heat through regenerative ceramic media. It heats organic waste gases (VOCs) to above 800℃ for high-temperature oxidation and decomposition, achieving purification efficiency of 95% to 99%. The unique heat storage design significantly reduces fuel consumption, saving 30% to 50% energy compared to traditional incineration equipment.

This Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer system was specifically designed for Huizhou Yuxin New Materials Co., Ltd., which operates the world's largest single-set production capacity for maleic anhydride facilities. The system processes 150,000 tons of maleic anhydride off-gas and a small amount of waste liquid annually.
Ruiding innovatively employs either standalone RTO or standalone Thermal Oxidizer (TO) processes for off-gas treatment. This marks the world's first adoption of the "RTO + TO + Waste Heat Recovery System" process combination, achieving the largest processing air volume of 480,000 standard cubic meters per single unit and treating 2.5 tons per hour of waste liquid.
The waste heat recovery system captures residual heat, converting it into saturated steam at a rate of 200 tons per hour, with parameters of 9.45 MPaG and 535°C. This steam supplies heat to the desalination water system.
System Components
The system occupies an area of 35×59 meters and includes: mist separator, thermal filter, RTO unit, spray scrubbing tower, electrostatic precipitator, TO unit, high-pressure steam superheater, SCR reactor, waste gas preheater, desalination flue gas heat exchanger, chimney, startup fan, reverse draw fan, and combustion system.
Operating Principle
The RTO consists of insulated chambers filled with high-temperature ceramic media. Polluted air enters through an energy recovery chamber where ceramic media preheats it before introduction to the oxidation chamber. The oxidation reaction occurs in the combustion chamber, converting pollutants into CO₂ and water vapor while releasing thermal energy.
Hot, clean gas exits through the second recovery bed, leaving heat in the ceramic media. In the next cycle, the process stream flows in reverse, utilizing stored heat to preheat incoming air. Periodic switching of inlet, outlet, and purge processes completes the preheating, oxidation, heat storage, and release stages.
