Project Details
Completion Time: December 2022
Location: Shandong Qingdao
Solution: Catalytic Oxidation System
Pollution Source: Volatile Emissions
This Catalytic Oxidation system was designed by Jiangsu Ruiding Environmental Engineering Co. as an EPC general contract for Qingdao Siyuan Chemical Co., Ltd. It treats volatile emissions from chemical product manufacturing processes and loading/transportation operations.
To meet Qingdao City emission standards while minimizing operational costs, we implemented an innovative "cryogenic + CO" off-gas treatment process, replacing traditional cryogenic plus adsorption technology. The system handles 650 Nm³/h of tank area volatile gas and 350 Nm³/h of loading volatile gas within a 20×10 meter unit area, featuring three-stage condenser recovery, reheater, catalytic reactor, and electric heater components.
The project achieved mechanical completion on October 30, 2022, completed commissioning on November 20, 2022, and began official production operations in early December 2022.
Working Principle
Before entering Catalytic Recuperative Oxidizers (CO), gas containing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) is preheated through a heat exchanger. The preheated gas enters the CO unit and is elevated to the catalyst's working temperature, where an exothermic reaction converts pollutants into carbon dioxide and water vapor. Clean hot flue gas then passes through the heat exchanger, transferring thermal energy to incoming air before being discharged through a chimney.
Using catalysts with different oxidation temperatures allows for lower inlet temperatures (250-305°C). Heat released during oxidation raises the chamber temperature (e.g., to 300°C), depending on VOC concentration and calorific value. The lower inlet temperature reduces energy requirements for maintaining oxidation temperature, resulting in significant energy savings.
Key Advantages
- Lower ignition temperature achieves higher purification efficiency with optimized heat exchange and heating efficiency, reducing energy consumption and operating costs
- Compact equipment layout saves construction and installation expenses while ensuring convenient operation and maintenance
- Advanced waste heat recovery system maximizes heat recuperation, enabling normal production without additional fuel while generating superheated high-temperature steam
- Rectangular catalytic reactor design facilitates easy catalyst loading, replacement, installation, and maintenance
- Palladium and platinum stainless steel metal honeycomb catalysts offer high activity, excellent high-temperature stability (up to 730℃), superior mechanical strength, extended lifespan (4-5 years), reduced resistance, and easy cleaning
